Meet the Director of Athletics

Director of Athletics Riczer Desvaristes: is in his 2nd year here at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. Desvaristes has turned Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School into one of the best Athletic programs in the Country!

Under Desvaristes watch in just his 2nd season, the Hurricanes have celebrated 2 FHSAA State Finals Four appearances in Men’s Basketball and Women’s volleyball. 3 State Championship Appearances in Basketball (Boys), Football and Girls Basketball. 2020-21 Bishop McLaughlin has seen 9 different sports programs earn team or individual berths to postseason competition for the first time ever! Bishop McLaughlin has had three Coaches Of The Year winners in Football (Ken Stills Sr.) Men’s Basketball (Derrick Sharp) Women’s Volleyball (Doug Chinchar). Additional honors include TWO Florida State Player Of The Year winners in both men’s basketball and women’s volleyball – Emanuel Sharp (Basketball) Audrey Koenig (Volleyball).

Desvaristes has made some impressive high profile and successful coaching hires in Football, Men’s Basketball, and Baseball. Ken Stills Sr. former NFL player and coach in the football program, Derrick Sharp former professional coach, Euroleague champion, and 5A Coach of the year in Men’s Basketball. Kacey White former US national team member women’s soccer and Marc Eskew one of the top coaches in the Tampa Bay Area in baseball.

Academically, Bishop McLaughlin Athletics has thrived under Desvaristes leadership. The school ranks as the number one College Prep School in Pasco County ( with an overall Graduation Success Rate of 100% in all sports. In 2019 Bishop McLaughlin’s athletic department recently received their first-ever FHSAA Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award Nomination. The Rozelle Award, which is bestowed on a program whose athletic teams demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during the regular season and the FHSAA State Series. This award is presented to one school whose entire sports program best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship as demonstrated by its coaches, players, and spectators.

Riczer Desvaristes is a Tampa Bay Business Journal 40 under 40 nominee and is also widely acclaimed for his contributions to enhancing the student-athlete experience. He is one of the main men involved in implementing the Student-Athlete Lounge & Indoor Baseball Player Development Lounge and strives to promote the attributes of Perseverance, Teamwork, Optimism, Accountability, Determination, and Discipline. In his leisure time, Riczer cherishes spending time in the company of his loved ones and is always on the lookout for an opportunity to learn something new & explore something exceptional.
